Disturbance

June 25, 2010

Big news in the Gulf of Mexico this week has been what a tropical disturbance will mean for the oil spill.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a westward path that misses the current spill area.

Also keeping my fingers crossed for the people in Haiti who are living in tents directly under this “disturbance” this weekend. Spoke to a guy in the Cayman Islands today who says blithely, “It’s the rainy season. It rains everyday.” Again, I cringe for those with inadequate shelter.

We had a ten-minute “hurricane” here yesterday. One of those massive summer storms that brings rain and 70mph winds, but is over before you know it. That storm brought down trees and many will be without power through the weekend. It was a reminder of what is facing Haiti this summer and certainly an incentive to get there soon.
