Six Months Later

July 12, 2010

News organizations are really great at marking the passage of time.

This week, Anderson Cooper’s AC360 will return to Haiti to update us on how Haiti is doing six months after the earthquake. Billions of dollars were donated. Is it helping?

Early reports suggest that things have improved slightly, but only 10% of those donations have been dispursed to Haiti. As the people endure the rainy season and pray to be spared from hurricanes, there is bureaucratic debate over what to DO with these people. Hundreds of thousands still live in tent cities. Many more lack access to basic medical care.

I can only hope that the renewed attention means more aid will flow to the people who need it.
