“God is real”

September 3, 2010

I’ve written before about my helpful Haitian parking lot attendant.

This morning, he greeted me with, “I just got off the phone with Haiti!” He explained that his wife and son live in Port-au-Prince.

He explained to me this morning that when the earthquake hit, his wife and son were at home and their home sustained no damage. An inspector looked it over several weeks later and was amazed that it was fine in an area of major damage.

On a typical day, his wife would have been at work at the time of the earthquake and his son at school. But this day, she decided to leave early and picked up her son on the way home. That simple twist of fate likely saved their lives.

He said to me, “I don’t know your beliefs, but God is real.”

He went on to say that you can’t see God, but you can see God through the actions of others and that when he sees how many people go to help in Haiti, he knows for sure that God is real and looking after us.

He is hoping to get back to Haiti the week of Christmas.

The perfect time for a man who sees God in the people around him.
